Encryption
All files that are sent to Perfect Backup are encrypted and compressed before being sent. No-one apart from you can read the contents. Anyone hacking into the Backup Connect backup server will see only unreadable and indefinable files.

Encryption code for your Bakcup Data
The encryption code that you make can only be viewed from your computer and is known only to you. The encryption code is never sent over the network. If you lose the encryption code, your backup will never be readable again. So, although Perfect Backup has access to all the files on the backup server, Perfect Backup will be completely unable to understand the content of the files.

Important: - Your encryption Key is like a PIN code on your bank card. Keep the code in a safe place so that you will never forget it. Without the code neither you, Perfect Backup, nor the developers of the software can restore your backup!

We don't keep your encryption Key
The encryption key used to encrypt your files resides only on your computer and is known only to you. It is never transmitted anywhere across the network. If this key is lost, all backup files can never be recovered. Therefore, although we have access to all files you stored on our backup server, we have no knowledge of the content of the files you stored.

Secure login procedure
Since a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, the login procedure is also carried out in a secure environment. Perfect Backup uses the secure 128 bit SSL connection to send your login details. This same protection is also used for procedures such as online banking. So although the information is sent over the public Internet, it is impossible for it to be intercepted.

All backup files can never be recovered.

In the case where your encrypting key is lost, there will be no way to restore data from the corresponding backup set. You must create a new backup set and then backup the data again in order have a restorable copy of the data. Since the encrypting key is never sent to the Perfect Backup server, thus, the encrypting key is not retrievable if lost.

If the encrypting key is lost, then the following steps must be performed to ensure that data backed up in the future can be restore and decrypt:

1. Delete all backup sets where the encryption key is lost
2. Create new backup sets for the affected data
3. Backup the data immediately

We would like to stress that it is very important to keep a record of your user password and encrypting key.

Besides, the encrypting key cannot be changed once as it is set up for a backupset. Even you reset the password for your account; the encrypting key will not be changed for all of your backupsets. All the newly uploaded data will still uses this encrypting key and you will need to use the same key to restore any previous uploaded data.

Only an internet connection is needed !

Perfect Backup lets you make a fully automatic backup of your valuable files every day. Perfect Backup does this as follows:

To start:
You can apply immediately and receive a username and password within a few minutes by e-mail. With this you can download the software which you can easily install yourself. The backup software guides you through the installation procedure. You indicate which file maps you want to backup and when you want the backup to be carried out. The installation usually takes 15 minutes. As soon as you log in, Perfect Backup will send you an English quickstart manual by e-mail.

The backup
Once the backup software has been installed, Perfect Backup will backup all your data. Once the initial total backup has been made, only the changes in your valuable data will be sent to the backup server on subsequent days. This reduces the burden on the server. Your password allows you to put your files back on your computer from the backup server from anywhere in the world where you have an Internet connection. You will receive a clear and detailed report of every backup by e-mail.

The initial backup always takes the longest, and can vary from minutes to hours to days, depending on the volume of data being backed up. However, after the first full backup, our server compares its file store with the files on your computer and backs up only those files that have been modified since the last backup, which minimizes bandwidth overhead and can take as little as 2 minutes. Transfer speeds of course depend on the speed of your internet connection, but we can accommodate speeds ranging from old fashioned dialup all the way up to corporate LAN connections.
